    Call for Abstracts:
Information Science Trends (IST): Information Science Research During COVID-19 and Post-Pandemic Opportunities

The last year has seen dramatic changes in the way we approach our research.  As COVID-19 cases rose, research laboratories, and data collection opportunities in-person all closed.  The world went into lockdown.  Our usual work activities were halted or pivoted online.
After a year of change, it is time to reflect on the challenges and the opportunities we have experienced as a result of the pandemic.

Hold the Date! June 9-11th, 2021, 2-5pm (BST)

The European Chapter (EC) and European Student Chapter (ESC) of the Association for Information Science and Technology (ASIS&T) are seeking your contributions!

We invite you to the online research and networking event on Information Science Research During COVID-19 and Post-Pandemic Opportunities on June 9-11, 2021, 2pm-5pm (BST / Dublin time). For each day we will have one keynote followed by short online talks and a student poster session.

We invite all interested colleagues - researchers, practitioners, students - to submit extended abstracts to be published at Zenodo, an online repository for research outputs, and present their topic in an online talk (15 minutes).

This event focuses on Information Science Research During COVID-19 and Post-Pandemic Opportunities and accepts submissions on practical projects, research or practical case studies, and conceptional ideas. Topics may include, but are not limited to:
    • Social informatics in a pandemic
    • Information behaviour/practices during a pandemic
    • Retrieval for pandemic information
    • Information ethics and society during lockdown
    • Data in a pandemic
    • Artificial intelligence (AI), a pandemic opportunity?
    • Online and remote data collection
    • Ethical concerns around online research
    • Research collaboration during a pandemic
    • Researchers' health and well-being during a pandemic
    • Funding challenges during COVID-19
    • Post-pandemic information science research
    • Research dissemination and discourse during a pandemic
We are excited to organize and lead this online event with you together!

The event is part of the series on Information Science Trends (IST). The events focus on current research topics introduced by invited speakers from research and industry. Our first event in Hamburg (April, 2019) focused on the topic Search Engines and Information Retrieval. Our second online event focused on Health Information Behaviour (June, 2020). It was awarded the ASIS&T Chapter Event of the Year. Our events provide an opportunity to network and share ideas and interests from the different fields of information science and related disciplines. This event will be held online again this year as a result of COVID-19.

    Best Student Poster Contest
Information Science students are invited to submit posters about their research. Poster sessions will be held each day, spanning the topics of each track. Poster presentations will be 10 min in length. Please submit an extended, structured abstract and choose the submission type "poster" in the submission form. All posters will be entered in a Best Poster competition. Students are defined as BA/BSc, MA/MSc, or PhD students within Information Science. You need to verify your status and name your supervisors.

    Submission:
Contributions may be a presentation talk (15 min) or a poster presentation (10 min; for students only). For all contribution submissions, we request an extended abstract (500-1,000 words, including references in APA format, and written in English). You will find our template here. Submissions are due on: Friday, May 14th, 2021. Please submit via Easychair. All abstracts will be peer-reviewed.
We require all authors of accepted submissions to upload their abstract with a CC-BY 4.0 International License at Zenodo (community: Information Science Trends - ASIS&T European Chapter Series)

Cannot Give a Talk But Want to Attend?

Participation is not restricted to those presenting. If you do not want to present your work, you may want to join and listen to the talks. In this case, please register via: https://associationforinformationscienceandtechnologyasist.growthzoneapp.com/ap/Events/Register/9p9e7nkp
This event will be free for ASIS&T members this year, as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
