Nominations for SIG-AI Best Publication of the Past Year, 2025 Now Open
ASIS&T SIG-AI announces a call for nominations for the SIG AI Best Artificial Intelligence Published Paper Award. The purpose of the award is to recognize an outstanding paper published within the scope of SIG AI.
Papers that were published, not merely accepted or in press, in any peer-reviewed scholarly publication, including journals and conference proceedings, during the prior calendar year 2025 are eligible for the award. At least one author of the winning paper must be a member of SIG-AI at the time of the award. Any ASIS&T member may join SIG AI at any time.
The paper must address artificial intelligence in relation to information science and technology as a central topic. Eligible papers may focus on the design, development, implementation, evaluation, use, governance, ethics, or societal impact of AI in information contexts. Empirical, theoretical, methodological, design-oriented, and critical papers are all eligible for consideration. Papers that merely use AI techniques as a data-processing tool, without substantively engaging with AI as a research topic, are not eligible.
Nominations should be submitted by June 30, 2026. Papers may be nominated by any member of SIG-AI, including the paper authors. The award will consist of a $200 cash prize and certificates from ASIS&T, to be presented at the ASIS&T Annual Meeting.
Submissions should be made through the nomination form. If you are unable to access the form, nominations may be submitted by email to yuan.li@ua.edu. Each nomination should include:
  1. the full citation of the paper;
  2. a copy of the paper; and
  3. a brief rationale for nomination.
The rationale should address the award criteria, including the paper’s relevance to artificial intelligence and information science and technology; strength and appropriateness of the methodology or argument; significance and implications of the findings or contribution; originality; and clarity of expression.
The award announcement will be released after the nomination and review process is completed.
